Dining spans trendy taco joints, local eateries and Asian restaurants, while nightlife encompasses craft beer pubs, live music venues and dance clubs. There are landscaped gardens at Central Memorial Park, while nearby Stampede Park is known for the annual Calgary Stampede.

This new, 2-acre rooftop public park and event space serves as an exciting destination for residents and visitors to the city alike. Find it at 340 10 Ave SW.
Home to many of Calgary’s first warehouses, due to its proximity to the Canadian Pacific Railway, the area was named after the 1912 streetcar route on 17th Avenue southwest – the “belt line”. In the early 20th century the streetcar circled from the Beltline to the downtown core.
Immerse yourself in the metropolitan fabric of East Village. Music, culture, history and awardwinning architecture all come together to welcome visitors from around the world. From the National Music Centre at Studio Bell to the spectacular Central Library and much more, every turn promises a new discovery. Rent a bike, hop on a scooter tour, or take a stroll. Downtown and the popular east-end character neighbourhoods of Inglewood and Bridgeland are quick to access by foot or two wheels, and transit offers convenient connections to the rest of the city.
A block away at the junction where 8 Avenue and 4 Street meet, The Bounce Games Park is a temporary pop-up games park which has a full-sized basketball court for both regular and 3×3 games, ping-pong tables, hopscotch, foursquare, and an art mural by artist duo MAUD. Drop by and remember to BYOG – bring your own gear.
A newly developed Real Canadian Superstore can be found on the second floor of RioCan’s 5th and 3rd street shopping centre for your everyday needs. There is also a newly licensed childcare facility, Kidko, to support all new families in the area.

The neighbourhood of Eau Claire is located immediately north of downtown, south of the Bow River and north of 4th Avenue. Eau Claire offers the perfect combination of nature and metropolitan bustle. A mix of riverside condominiums, shopping, restaurants, hotels, a large public plaza and urban parkland make Eau Claire one of Calgary’s most popular areas and contains the city’s Festival District.
North of Eau Claire is Prince’s Island Park, a large urban park on an island in the Bow River and the site of many summer festivals, including the Calgary Folk Music Festival, Latin festivals, Shakespeare in the Park and various busking happenings. Enjoy the parks picnic areas, playgrounds, pathways and walking trails.
Eau Claire Market is a focal point of the neighbourhood, and sits immediately south of the Bow River. Marda Loop is centred on 33rd and 34th Avenues SW between Crowchild Trail and 18th Street SW, and along Garrison Gate SW. The area has become one of Calgary’s many popular outdoor shopping venues with 130 exclusive owner-operated businesses, consisting of small-scale retailers, coffee shops, and pubs.
On the second Sunday in August, the streets of Marda Loop come alive with a New Orleansthemed Marda Gras Street Festival. This free one-day event includes the sights, sounds and cuisine of The Big Easy, (of course COVID pending).
Visit Pie Cloud, located in the Mercantile Farmers Market, for freshly baked savoury and sweet pies. One street down, Calgary’s premium Korean bakery, WOW Bakery, serves up worldrenowned pastries, cakes and breads.
Marda Loop has also become synonymous with ice cream. My Favourite Ice Cream Shoppe scoops 72 flavours of ice cream and has been a place for locals to gather on hot summer days since 1981. Play the piano in the shop for 10 minutes and get a free ice cream.
